A dynamic, self-starter with over 15 years’ experience across a wide spectrum of the tourism industry. Karim has worked with public and private institutions, UNWTO, RDB, TTB, Local Districts, large and small tour operators, ecotourism planners, responsible tourism management and marketing projects.
Having been trained to look at many different aspects of tourism, Karim knows that sustainability means long term planning and management and that experience and understanding of diverse cultures and environments is a fundamental part of tourism. He has furthered this understanding through both his personal and work travels. He has traveled extensively to East, South and West African countries.
Karim has two specialties within the tourism industry:
Sustainable/Responsible tourism consulting – product development, environmental management, research, business planning. He has undertaken a range of tourism development and marketing consulting assignments both alone and in cooperation with other companies.
Marketing of tourism products. His experience includes destination marketing, market research and analysis.
Karim holds a University Degree in Marketing from Ecole Nationale Superieure d’ Information et de Communication (ENSIC, SAN PEDRO IVORY COST). He also has been trained in both Responsible tourism management (MOSHI, TANZANIA) and IT Software Management (ELDORET, KENYA).
He has contributed to responsible tourism development since 2001 with the implementation of the STEP/UNWTO Project on the shores of Lake Kivu RWANDA and the redesigning of the famous Kilimanjaro Community Trail in TANZANIA.
Karim is currently working as a tourism consultant for Horwath HTL Rwanda Office – an international Hotel Tourism & leisure consulting firm which he joined since 2012, He also holds the role of tourism advisor for Rubavu and Rutsiro Districts, Western Province, Rwanda.
He has written, co-authored and edited articles about responsible tourism and ecotourism, destination marketing and has published books and numerous articles about Rwanda’s heritage and destinations.
